Watchful and determined, the falcon and fetterlock passed to the Queen through the Plantagenet King Edward III as an emblem of the Houses York and Lancaster. The Falcon was later adopted by Henry VIII and established as one of his daughter Elizabeth I’s favorite royal beasts. The obverse displays coin artist Jody Clark’s effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the legend “ELIZABETH II, D.G. REG. F.D., 25 POUNDS”, and the designer’s initials surrounding the image.
Designed by Royal Mint coin artist Jody Clark, the reverse features a regal Falcon grasping a shield. The shield’s badge is ornamented with a smaller falcon and a partially-open fetterlock (padlock). The coin’s weight, purity, year of issue, and “FALCON OF THE PLANTAGENETS” encircle the image.
