Morgan Silver Dollars are one of the most popular historic US silver dollars among modern investors and collectors. Though the design of the coins was not admired by Americans in the 19th century, the Morgan Silver Dollars age and status as a 90% silver coin make it popular with modern precious metal enthusiasts. Right now, you can buy Morgan Silver Dollar Coins in cull condition from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a plastic flip!
  • Issued from 1878 to 1904 and in 1921!
  • Contains .7734 Troy oz of actual silver content.
  • Bears a face value of $1 (USD) fully backed by the US government.
  • On the obverse is Liberty.
  • The reverse depicts the heraldic eagle.
  • Cull condition coins.

With your purchase of a Morgan Silver Dollar through this Provident Metals listing, you receive a coin from this series in cull condition. Each coin will ship with a protective plastic flip while multiples may arrive in larger plastic bags. Cull condition coins are valued purely for the metal content. The design strike and other inscriptions can be heavily worn away on cull coins, and it is also possible for severe damage to be present. This includes deep scratches, heavy scuffs, and even holes in the coin.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the Morgan Silver Dollar is a left-profile bust of Liberty. She wears her hair up in a loose bun at the back of her head with a coronet reading Liberty on her head, as well as a crown wreath. E Pluribus Unum is engraved above her head with 13 stars in total around the design element. The date mark is engraved at the bottom.

Reverse

The reverse face of Morgan Silver Dollar Coins includes the heraldic eagle of the United States. This image of the national symbol includes a bald eagle without the US national shield on its chest as its talons clutch the olive branch of peace and the arrows of war. Inscriptions here include United States of America, In God We Trust, and One Dollar.

History

Morgan Silver Dollar Coins were introduced in 1878 after a five-year halt in silver dollar coining in the US. The design replaced the Seated Liberty Silver Dollar and was in production from 1878 to 1904. No new silver dollars were issued after 1904 until the 1920s. In 1921, the silver dollar returned to production with the Morgan Silver Dollar issued for most of the year before being replaced in December by the Peace Silver Dollar.
